Peter:

Ok I bow to greater wisdom on editing.

All I know is I am not the world's best editor and I know that

I can still enjoy a book that is not greatly edited. Jan, my American friend, was as close to perfect an Editor as I have seen anyone, she used to point the mistakes out to me line by line. My cousin Michelle is about that good, she does it freelance for a living. I just smile and think ... God what a mind they must have to know all those rules.

Have a nice day.

There is another word I came across recently in Micheners "Centenial" I thought you might like:

Shun.

The action of shunning; in phr. upon the shun.

1822 SCOTT Peveril Pref. Let., Our friend is so much upon the shun..that it must be no light temptation which will withdraw him from his incognito.

THE OED does not have the Amish use of the word, to not talk to completely. It is amazing what you find when you are reading new books.

Completely irrelavant but I thought you might like the term, although did they not shun Squashy HAt?

John
