I read the Swallows and Amazons books when I was a child (27 years ago) and began re-reading them recently. My favourites are Swallows and Amazons and We Didn't Mean To Go To Sea. They were magical then and I enjoy them just as much today. At the same time, I connected to the Internet and was happy to discover TARS and Tarboard. I sent off my application form to TARS yesterday. It is wonderful that there are so many people around the world who still love the books. I fear they may not be modern enough for children today. Is that right?

I agree with some of the opinions on Tarboard that the covers on the paperback versions (especially Red Fox) are not a patch on the hardcovers. It is difficult to buy the hardcover versions here in Melbourne, Australia. I was excited to find that there was a semi-book (Coots in the North) that I have not yet read. I hope to make the pilgrimage to Coniston and Peel Island in September this year, and possibly the Norfold Broads and Pin Mill.
