Pubs, Inns etc

The thread on coffee had contributions about beer etc. and made me think that in the East Anglia books there are many references to pubs (or inns or even hotels) but in the lakes books there are hardly any - I'm sure Ed and his amazing database can give us the details - but my thought is why? Does this reflect AR's own life?
