I agree with Dan. I feel it is muddle-headed to attempt to impose commemorative texts on landscape features. A large slate plaque was fixed to the trig point at the summit of Coniston Old Man in 1994, commemorating the S&A climb of Kanchenjunga and AR's books. It was installed at just the right height to be kicked. I am told it lasted about 3 weeks. Pieces of it were later found strewn round the summit. I deplore vandalism, but I did have a certain sympathy in that case.
