There is a similar bar here in Portland, Maine. It, too, is made from a pub from Ireland. I understand that it’s actually part of a chain – I wonder if the pub in Austin part of the same chain. This one is called Ri-Ras. I enjoy the pub, largely because it serves great stout, albeit a bit too cold, and often has European football or rugby on the television – neither of which is common to see in the US, at least on the paltry number of stations we receive at home.

While I enjoy the atmosphere, I’m not sure how I feel about the owners having dismantled a pub in Ireland and brought it over here. That somehow smacks of cultural thievery. But I’m probably being over-sensitive. Can’t be too critical, I guess, since I patronize the place.
