have to check but seem to recall from the autobiography/biography quite a few mentions of walking and pubs in the early Lake District years, and only the odd halfs of cider in later times.

After exhaustive fieldwork (have you ever tried working with slugs!)
and statistical analysis our conclusions were 1) Real Ale, 2)Cider -
real somerset scrumpy, 3)Lager

hmmm - I'm a SLUG (see link) and similar fieldwork showed similar results
