I have not heard of AR's books being banned in the UK, but I have heard of them not being held in libraries where the Head of Library considers that they do not reflect the modern egalitarian multi-cultural society, and are therefore not 'relevant' for children. However, one good point which Ransome books have going for them is the gender equality - Nancy as John's equal, or possibly better, etc. This earns precious marks from educationalists. I am not really taking sides here, as I can see both points of view. However, dare I mention this - the Arthur Ransome Society is continuing to present sets of AR books to schools which do not have them. Northern Region have just presented 3 sets.
