While not an area I have researched, from the literature of the time, from historical documents I have read and from my own experience of growing up on the northern fringes of the Lake District, it was not at all uncommon for a woman to be somewhat older than her husband. We may speculate that Bob Blackett had been a friend of Jim Turner's and both a year or two younger than Molly. As a real-world example from literature, consider JRR Tolkien whose wife was (without checking) about five years older than he.
