As an example from my own family shows; marrying a younger man was not at all out of the question, especially when the age difference was small. My grandfather married my grandmother in 1922, about the period we are considering. He was at least a year younger, though my grandmother was always somewhat vague about the year of her birth! She was a widow having married a much older man first.
