I don't think that's entirely true, Mike. My wife is an English teacher and is often confronted with "reluctant readers". She has seen some of these students' lives changed by Rowling. They are not likely to pick up Dickens immediately, but Rowling certainly sets them off on a journey that could easily end up there. Rowling shows these students that books can offer much more than TV, movies, or video games. That’s quite an accomplishment when so much of popular culture suggests the opposite.
