I agree - they certainly are not five years older. What I meant was that I get a feeling that AR has gone back to setting the stories in a "generalised present", in GN, rather than the careful referencing to a particular summer in WDMTGTS, SW and BS. I feel that during the War he was carefully avoiding references to that "abnormal" state of affairs - had he set stories in the War they would have dated fast, so he chose to reference SW and BS to a pre-War date.

I hope I am making sense?
