That might explain the odd quality of these BBC videos, which had the "properties" almost perfect, the costumes wildly over the top, the scripting abysmal and the direction nowhere in particular.
The BBC just cannot "do" Ransome; they've tried twice and made a mess of it each time - mind you, "Swallows and Amazons for Ever" is nowhere near as dire as the 60's TV series, which was ghastly.
