Let's go further back -- to the days of steam radio. My first contact with S&A
was sometime in the late 40's to early 50's tuning in (at about age 10) to a Children's program on the BBC and
listening to a reading about an expedition up the Amazon. At first I
thought it was about the "real" Amazon but as oars became entangled
with weeds it became clear that it was a story closer to home. The next day I went
out to the local Children's Library (Gloucester, England), checked
out S&A and started a long-lasting relationship with the works of AR.

I wonder whether in the BBC archives there still exists that reading of S&A?
somehow it's more attractive to listen and only be limited by your
imagination. Anyone know how to find out?
