The case for Flint being a younger brother is looking fairly good, but not completely certain.
Note that he is a BIG brother, he can lift big bundles, catch his sister in his arms, is fairly healthy, while Molly is small though plump, and seems to be frail in health. This woulkd tie in nicely with her being the younger, with their mother perhaps dying during her birth or infancy and thus her growth as a small child being affected.... but there are plenty of similar reasons why an older sister can be small or frail I suppose. N
It shoulkd be noted, that younger or older, Jim has the roile of Molly's protector and caregiver; he calls her "Mops" too.
