Personally I've always been very fond of Georgette Heyer's mysteries, although they are a pretty small percentage of her total output. But we might have to disqualify her on the grounds that her husband, a Soliciter, thought up the plots for her. Then again that's how 'Manning Coles' worked I think; one plotist and one stylist.
