You must have been very gentle with your books - and perhaps didn't read them in the bath. The Cape editions I had as a child (before there were any paperbacks) wore out decades ago - they still exist but are tatty piles of paper in a cupboard. After two generations of intensive use in this household we are now on at least our third copies of the favourites, which has had the advantage that it has allowed us to add early editions in some cases. Any that have been superseded while in reasonable condition have moved to the childrens' houses.

Surely we are not unique in this?
