I agree completely with Alan Lang. Of course Nancy is a Lakeland girl and follows the same speech patterns as her parents (and Uncle Jim) did. The GA was from Harrogate, or at least lived there, and certainly had a great influence on Molly and Jim. The GA herself was familiar with the Lake and knew quite a few people there. I still think that there must be a connection between Nancy's parents and some other part of England. I do get the feeling that they are not natives of the region, although I would be hard-pressed to justify this impression. Perhaps because Uncle Jim has knocked around the world a bit, he doesn't quite seem to "belong" in the region.
