National news announcers with strong regional accents
OK, there are none at present, but there will be, mark my words, there will be! This will happen when more and more producers join the BBC who, like Peter Ceresole, think that RP is a 'malign influence'. In fact, strong urban accents can now be heard in some of the continuity announcements on BBC 2 television. Incidentally, Peter has asked me to justify my arguments in favour of RP, so could I now ask him in turn to justify his statement that RP is a 'malign influence'. That must be the biggest load of cock-a-doodle I have ever read on Tarboard, on a par with obscurantist fears of 'erudition' which have been aired recently. Inverted snobbery rules!
