Just came across this quotation from a December 27, 1927 letter to his mother, thanking her for her ‘avalanche of Christmas presents.’ Amongst the gifts - veggies! Amongst the veggies - Brussels Sprouts!
Here is an extract:

"My dearest Mother,
...
In more temporal, fleeting pleasures you could have chosen nothing better than your hamper of vegetables. I LOVE Brussels Sprouts and yours were the best I’ve ever had, little cabbage cherubim."

LITTLE CABBAGE CHERUBIM! I love that! I actually went out and bought a few of the li'l angelic visitors after reading that - who knows, I may actually eat them. :)
Inspired by Ransome, yet again!

(Letter found in Signalling From Mars - The Letters of Arthur Ransome, Hugh Brogan ed.)
