Prue mentions the query What school did you go to?. Peculiar to Christchurch though - no one I know has encountered it elsewhere here.
Back in the 60s, a Brisbane friend told me that in Melbourne, you were asked What school did you go to?, in Sydney What do you earn? and in Brisbane What will you have?
Perhaps this is no longer true. I have just got home from Australia, where I was struck by the variety of accents on the TV. Some would have passed for BBC, others were almost a parody of Strine.
