Three million cheeers for Jonathan Laboree! Couldn't agree with him more. What he says about American and Canadian broadcasting is so true, especially about TV. The high point of any evening is watching a BBC production. Fron adaptations of Dickens or Austen novels to documentaries the BBC productions are absolutely first rate. Many of them appear on PBS in North America, but other channels, such as the History Channel and A&E air them. If you live in the U.K. you tend to accept the BBC programs as normal fare. If you lived elsewhere you would soon realize how good they are, compared to overseas TV. Having said that, I have to mention that American documentaries are often very good. I watched Ken Burns' early settlement of the west a couple of nigts ago, and it was excellent. The Americans seem to excel when they are exploring their own history and culture, as might be expected. Public TV is head and shoulders above the regular stations: CBS, ABC, NBC and so on. But, in my view, the BBC heads all the rest.

P.S. 92 responses so far, eh? Oh, I'm so proud.
