I'll contact my cousin. Fair point about the Hiscocks!

Childers was a one trick pony as a novelist - he was, by occupation, a House of Commons Clerk (this is a fairly grand, if specialised, corner of the British Civil Service). Soon after the novel (which was an immediate sucess, and is considered as the first spy story in the modern manner, hence an antecdent of Buchan) was published, he married and was given the 25 ton ketch Asgard, designed and built for him by Colin Archer, no less. He got very involved in the Irish independence movement, and seems to have lost interest in writing. For an odd sideways glance at his later yachting activities, look into "From Three Yachts", by Conor O'Brien (another of my sailing heroes).
