Early on in my time in Canada, I was once asked if I was Australian, by an Australian! I think she had been in in Canada too long.
I always thought of my accent as being fairly standard RP and I don't consciously tailor it to my hearers, except that I use Canadian words and usages, but my Canadian family tell me that my accent changes noticeably when I get on the phone to my family in England.
