I agree with Malcolm that the ST 'could have done better'. What it
heralds as a 'discovery' is how in later life AR turned against the
Altounyan children - a story that has been well known since Brogan's
LIfe. What the article (and, presumably also the BBC film)
does benefit from is an interview with Mavis ('Titty') Altounyan,
who, sadly, confesses how as a child she had felt she wasn't "anything
like so good and clever as that person [Titty Walker]. I felt very
inferior indeed. But it was my name." The article includes a recent
photograph of Mavis Altounyan (which makes her look even more touchingly
'Tittymouse-like' than the childhood pictures), and the information that
the Ransomes were so taken with the young Titty that they asked her
father if they could adopt her. Let us all be thankful, on Titty's
behalf, that Ernest turned down the request.
