Prue, I'm with you on this one and I agree with your original post. I do wonder sometimes why there is a TARS, I read Ransome as a child and was so taken with it kept the books and continued to read it through adult life. When I discoverd this forum and the TARS related sites on the Web it was interesting but not essential for my feelings about the books.

Ransome is a great children's writer - perhaps the greatest (there are people who loath his work and I have even seen his movitves questioned), but because he his so great he does not need any support just as Shakespeare doesn't. That is not to say that those who like his work shouldn't get together and appreciate them together, but it is not essential.

TARS clearly needs Ransome, but does Ransome need TARS?
