While it's not explicitly "guns" there's also Captain Flint's explanation that he moved the camp down from Swallowdale to Wildcat because the grouse season was due to start and Mrs. Walker and Mrs. Blackett weren't happy at the thought of everyone being camped up there with the hunters all over.
