Yes, you're right Richard. Thanks. The book does indeed say that they beached her on the northern side of the cove (maybe in that little indentation where the three-fathom sounding is amrked.) I'd missed that.

Still, given that she was beached facing north, one would normally still imagine that the port side would receive more drying sun than the starboard. But the topography indicates that while the starboard side would be in sun from dawn till midday, the port side's exposure would be reduced considerably after midday because the sun would set over the western mountains quite early in the afternoon.

So I guess you, John, and AR were all right.
