Having inspected both Gondola and Esperance - the latter with all the appropriate furnishings for the S&A post-plank party - I feel we are looking at "models" for Captain Flints Houseboat, rather than either being the real thing. Frankly, both are too small for domesticated comfort. The sort of activities described in WH would be virtually impossible in the cramped conditions. Certainly the "set" used in the 1974 S&A film shows a craft of sufficient width to make a possible home for the retired pirate. I think AR suggested a "shape" for the craft to his original illustrator, rather than saying, in effect, "this is it".
