My last boat had legs which I used when drying her out for the spring refit (or if I ran aground on a falling tide), but I wouldn't have liked her to take the ground when I wasn't there - if the bottom was uneven it would put a very heavy strain on the area around the leg bolts. Having said that I have quite often seen boats on legs left on moorings, so it can be done.

Quite a lot of yachts today do have two (or three) keels and normally take the ground without trouble. Still not a good idea to leap about in them while aground as the whole weight of the ship is taken on a very small part of the structure.
