Although I have survived a northern Alberta winter, I have never been so cold in my life as when I was 12, waiting for the bus one January evening in Bournemouth. Standing, shivering uncontrollably in my silly grey flannel shorts, I remember thinking if I ever get out of this alive, I will remember it for the rest of my life. And I have. This is probably why I refuse to wear shorts now, even on the hottest summer days. I think most men look ridiculous in shorts anyway; they are simply not built for it. Maybe it's the cut of the shorts too.
