I find, on either side of the Atlantic, that Marmite (both Marmite and Vegemite are available in Thunder Bay -- I'm impressed) is something you either love or hate. I've never come across somone who had tasted it and was indifferent.

My family divides in two: two of my daughters and me who love it (one girl spreads it on so thickly it even makes me shudder); two daughters and a wife who hate it. As someone just remarked re wearing shorts -- it's good that we don't all have the same tastes!

Years ago I was on a bus tour of South Island New Zealand, organised by the local geographers, as part of an international conference. The tour group had academic geographers from all over the world One day we were given packed lunches as we were going where ther were no restaurants -- and included were Vegemite sandwiches. The assortment of strange oaths as Americans, Russians, Indians, Germans investigated this strange, brown, pungent stuff on their bread was most entertaining. I could have stuffed myself with discarded sandwiches that day!
