One of the most appealing features of the series as a whole is that AR
was very successful in writing 12 quite different stories. While I
sometimes read detective fiction it seems to me that many authors
write the same story over and over again. I think it most admirable that
upon writing one very successful detective story (by the way it is
one of my favourites) AR never wrote another. The difficulty of finding
completely new stories dealing with the traditional S & A themes is what
finally ended his splendid run.
