The marmite/vegemite thing is most amusing to the antipodeans who are brought up on it from virtually birth. Thick fresh bread and a thin spreading of the substance works to most tastes and either spread can also be used to add flavour to gravies and soups.
Anathema to us is the peanut butter/jelly the North Americans seem to celebrate - too sweet and calorific.
One thing in Vegemite's favour - our sportspeople are NZ's best export and the majority eat Vegemite by the spoonful!
