John SHOULD perhaps have addressed his sister as 'Susie" when things were at their worst in WDMTGTS, but he didn't. The passage remembererd by Robert and Jon comes from slightly earlier in the story than the reefing of the mainsail:
"Susan," said John at last. "Poor old chap."
There was no answer.
"Susan," said John again."We've simply got to sound the foghorn."
