I had put my post up before I read Peter's. I was not aware of the argument.

I would say purely on the basis of dimensions that Mavis is not the Amazon AR drew in his books. Just as I had all the drawings for Swallow and yet had trouble on some critical issues to make a match and I really wanted to match on all issues except adding a centerboard case. I know the Scarab is close to the real as I overlaid the pictures and drawings and the fit is to close to allow any other conclusion.

Is the Mavis the same as Scarab, if not then she is not the Amazon, she is the boat AR sailed and is important in that context, but Amazon is fictious not real. We can not visit Hogwarts Castle nor can we find the "real Amazon", and that is the fun, as well we can imagine and conjecture and then as Ed says we can have a beer and relax, older but none the wiser.

In the end does it matter, the WSM has an Amazon and my daughter will look at her in May in believe, I will drool to look at the construction techniques and we will both be happy.
