If, when the flood receded, it was found that normally the way was a road, then the car was in the right. If it was a waterway, then the boat!
P.P.S. to Ed - certainly the thought of driving on the 'wrong' side of the road scares me to death - just imagine trying to navigate a roundabout? But 'unnatural'? Unfamiliar, maybe.
