As far as I know "deusy" (which I learned to pronounce "doozy") is just as Jim explained: a shortening of "Deusenberg" (sp?), the luxury car. Yes, it was intended as a compliment. Sorry for the confusion.
Thank you, Andrew, for the link and the corroboration of AR's ornithology. I had rather hoped he had put his usual attention to detail into that seed of fantasy.
