The most famous Misleading Case was when Mr Haddock objected to the size of his tax bill, so he wrote a cheque on the flank of a cow, and delivered that to the taxman, who refused to take it. The case proved the cow was a valid cheque.
A.P.Herbert, the author (who also found time to be a Member of Parliament for some years) was writing at much the same time as AR. It seems likely that they met. Does anyone know?
