There's a parallel here in tourist's photographs. We get a lot of Japanese tourists here in southern Australia, and I have often seen them taking their photos. Always there are as many of the group as possible in the foreground, with the local feature very much in the background, and often obscured. My own preference is to take photographs of the local scenery without a soul in it. At Castlerigg I had to wait for a busload of tourists to go away, leaving just one other person sitting on a stone, who I could not avoid.
