But just think how their adventures would have been ruined if they had been unlucky enough to live in the mobile 'phone age. No morse, no semaphore, no pigeons.. In Swallowdale Susan would have thoroughly alarmed Mother by telephoning or "texting" her with the news that Titty and Roger were missing, but then they wouldn't have been missing ...Tom would have known the Margoletta was coming without the help of Port and Starboard....the GA might have been put off with a reassuring 'phone call....Goblin would have been rescued by the coastguards... but I'm sure everybody can come up with lots of other examples..
