I found this in Alan Clark's Diary for September 10th, 1983:
We are host to a company of actors, who are making a children's film for television.
Tripods is the name of the story. What a jarring name. Arthur Ransome, and (above all) Beatrix Potter knew what children really like. And adults, come to that...... These days authors write not so much to please the children as to earn the esteem of their own peers
or, more importantly, librarians in trendy boroughs.

Years before TARS, and the Diaries were published in 1993.
