I wonder if Dick would be on the front of a zodiac protesting against the Japanese whaling in the Pacific.

In terms of whaling those were different times and they used the oil becuase they did not have other sources, now we do not need the meat in Japan. AR in GN is at the forefront of conservation and I know that that book changed my world perspective on birds and other creatures.

The interesting thing is that we now have two groups of animals - those we can kill without to much question and the baby seal type that are emotive. The death of the rabbit in PM shows the difference to the birds.

I wonder what the philopshical reasons are for this. Even the venerable Compton McKenzie has hunting at the fore in a lot of his books that otherwise are reasonably friendly to heritage people in a humourous sort of way. Here I am thinking of the Monarch of the Glen.
