Ransome does include hunting for birds. Near the end of Swallowdale, it was recommended that the Swallows evacuate their camp at Swallowdale and move on quickly to the island, as that Swallowdale area would be involve in grouse hunting. It was not desirable to be in the way. So Captain Flint with help of friends moved their camp for them, much to their surprise, just in time to get them out of range of the grouse season.
