Talking of hunting, the novels of John Buchan where Richard Hannay goes shooting for pleasure have always astounded me. A 25 mile hike after breakfast nets him around a gross of red deer, a couple of dozen impala, ten water buffalo, half and dozen sperm whales, an elk with a fine set of antlers and a couple of ghillies. Somehow he brings them all home on his back for his loving wife to skin and clean for dinner. In my more thoughtful moments, I have sometimes considered writing a short story in Buchan's he-man style.
