Certain that there is no painter in the edition I have. (and hence no evidence that the picture was cropped).

A quick look through Sectret Water reveals the following pictures without borders...

Pudding Faces
Taking Bearings
Speedy
Splatchers

Also, many without the top border....


Cannot see any real pattern here at all....comments if you wish.
