My other main enthusiasm is for the books of Patrick O'Brian which were the inspiration for the film. I enjoyed the film and have seen it several times.

I was very pleased at the authenticity of the ship and its fittings, the historical setting was done very well.

As you might expect, the plot was considerably simpler to fit into a running length of little over 2 hours compared to a full size book. Compare the films and books of Swallows and Amazons, Coot Club and The Big Six to see how films can convey the overall story but not all the wrinkles in the plot.
