I think what might be happening here is that the same file is displayed in different ways; one way in "IE" and another way in "Windows Fax & Picture Viewer". Definately the Windows F&P Viewer in Windows XP pro will do smoothing of any image fed into it!(unless there is some way to turn it off that I haven't discovered yet)
Certainly mine looked different bothways, but when I saved the file from each route, (same file name, same size etc!) and viewed them both back IN THE SAME VIEWER they looked and behaved the same. Q.E.D.!
