I couldn't agree more about Disney-The-Pooh, Mike. I've just been (unavoidably) watching some of the videos, courtesy of my seven-year-old. They're appalling. The stories are their own inventions, not Alan Milne's, the characters are wrong, the illustrations (of course) aren't anything like Shepherd's, the voices are all American, and finally (and unbelievably) they've even written a bl**dy gopher into them! I ask you!

Personally, I'll never forgive the Milne executors (family, I understand) for selling a fine piece of English heritage to the Yanks (especially Disneys of all people,) or indeed the English government for not stepping in and buying them out instead.

Will Kenneth Grahame be next, maybe? Or Beatrix Potter perhaps?

Perish the very thought.
