Anoraks are a type of hooded coat originally worn by Inuit. However, during the 1970s a version of them became popular in the UK and are now seemingly sported only by obsessives.
Originally it was usually trainspotters because they were warm and waterproof when hanging about on platforms but the terminology has now spread beyond the clothing to the behaviour regardless of the subject.
