The Travel Lodge on the Euston Road (nearest tubes King's Cross and Euston) is pretty good. Some friends of mine from Scotland stayed there last week. Breakfast (all you can eat) was £6.50, and the room was £80 a night - which was quite good split three ways (it had a double bed and a single with an ensuite bath and shower). They also do family rooms, with spyholes at adult height and children's height - which looks funny but is sensible. The rooms at the back are quieter - and you can even open the windows!

Friends from Guernsey often stay at the Youth Hostel in Rotherhithe, which is fairly near to the tube station and (except in high summer) tends to be a lot quieter and pleasanter than the Youth Hostel at King's Cross (which also has those funny triple layer bunkbeds. Think it costs around £25 for adults and £20 for under 18s.
